America's Oldest City ~ The place to be !

Saint Augustine, Florida

It's that time of year.   At first I dread the thought of going out and doing the shopping, then once it's finished I'm like a little elf.

One of the to do's on my list every year is to visit the remarkable City of St. Augustine which was voted one of the top ten cities to see the holiday lights by National Geographic.  The lights are up from mid November through January.

The must do's:  Get your tickets for the Holly Jolly Trolley.   You'll be given 3D glasses which make the lights take on many different forms.   Last year I had candy canes !!!  You can buy tickets and hop on and off at multiple locations.   There is complimentary hot apple cider.   On our visit last year the Potters Wax Museum offered free hot cocoa.

Stop by Santa's house during your trolley ride and get a free photo with Santa Claus, who knows they may have free cookies again this year!

Dining:  We were very impressed with our last visit to "The Gourmet Hut".  Fresh menu daily and a quaint eclectic tiny eatery especially great for couples.   For families we loved "The Floridan"  a varied menu including many all natural and vegan options.   You can also eat in the rear of the Alcazar in what once was a swimming pool.   It is at the bottom of the Lightner Museum.

Holiday Cheer:  Lots of options for night caps in the "oldcity".   I like the Tini Martini bar for a night cap or why not visit the upstairs of Sangria's  Bar for some music and a glass of wine.

Bed and Breakfast:  If your traveling from out of town we recommend Casa De Suenos.  We have personally experienced their service as customers and truly enjoyed both the facilities as well as the breakfast and the customer service.

The Parking: There is a public parking lot or meters right on the street  if your lucky enough to find a spot.   My favorite lot is on Hypolita Street but you have to get there early to find a spot because there are only about 40 spots.   Another great spot is up by Flagler college.   Unfortunately you will have to pay for parking so bring $10.00 or a credit card which the meters on most lots and on the street accept.

There are many shops, galleries, and eateries for your enjoyment.   Go early to take in his magical city, I'm pretty sure you'll be back.
